Psyllium husk is sometimes included in horses' diets for specific health-related reasons.
Digestive health: Psyllium husk is rich in soluble fiber, which can help promote healthy digestion in horses. It forms a gel-like substance when mixed with water, which can help soften the stool and ease the passage of faeces through the digestive tract. This can be particularly beneficial in preventing or managing conditions such as colic or impaction.
Sand clearance: Horses grazing on sandy pastures or those fed on a substrate that contains sand may inadvertently ingest small amounts of sand over time. This sand can accumulate in the digestive tract and lead to complications. Psyllium husk has been used as a laxative in horses to help facilitate the removal of sand from the intestines. It works by binding to the sand particles and increasing the bulk of the faeces, aiding in their elimination.
Weight management: Psyllium husk can contribute to weight management in horses. As a source of fiber, it can provide a feeling of fullness, potentially reducing overeating and aiding in weight control.
When considering the use of psyllium husk for a horse, it is essential to consult with a veterinarian or equine nutritionist. They can provide guidance on the appropriate dosage, administration methods, and whether it is suitable for the specific needs of the horse. We ship to the whole of South Africa. In Cape Town, we service a large part of the Peninsula through partnerships with local couriers. In the rest of the country, we make use of Cloud Logistics, TheCourierGuy, and various other couriers to deliver your products as soon as possible.
Please note that we are based in Bellville, Cape Town, and we do not have branches in other locations.
Parcels in and around Cape Town are normally the next day. South of Muizenberg and Hout Bay are serviced on Tuesdays and Thursdays, while Stellenbosch and the Helderberg area are serviced on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays.
Parcels to the rest of the country and in major areas are normally delivered in 3-4 working days, although parcels to KwaZulu-Natal tend to take up to 4-5 days. Parcels to outlying towns and areas can take even longer, as these towns are normally not serviced every day.
Overnight delivery (only to certain areas) is available at an extra cost. Please contact us directly should this be required.
Days are calculated from when we confirmed the order is ready. All couriers work on a normal 5-day work week, excluding weekends and public holidays.
You are also more than welcome to pick-up your order at The Deli, or to organise a courier to collect it from us. Pick-up can only happen once you have been notified that your order is ready. Pick-ups are Monday to Thursday, 08:00 till 18:00, and Fridays 08:00 till 16:00, excluding weekends and public holidays.
We offer free shipping* on orders over R 1 000 to any destination in South Africa.
* The following destinations might have a surcharge: Chain stores, Power stations, Hospitals, Plots & Farms.
For orders under R 1 000 we do charge shipping.

If you would prefer to make use of your own courier services or do a pick-up yourself, please indicate and contact us after you have placed the order. Once your order is ready you will be notified. Your courier needs to pick-up the parcel at 9 Wyoming Street, Stellenridge, Bellville, Western Cape, 7530. Please see above for the normal pick-up times.
