Tomato paste is a thick paste made by cooking tomatoes for several hours to reduce the water content, straining out the seeds and skins, and cooking the liquid again to reduce the base to a thick, rich concentrate.

This tomato paste comes in a handy 660g bottle, ideal for the home cook. Add it to stews for an extra level of umami, or use it to make homemade BBQ sauce.

Properly stored, an unopened can of tomato paste will generally stay at its best quality for about 18 to 24 months, although it will usually remain safe to use after that.
