Speculaas biscuits are traditional spiced cookies from the Netherlands and Belgium, known for their rich flavour and beautifully embossed designs. These thin, crisp biscuits are made with a signature blend of warm spices, including cinnamon, nutmeg, cloves, ginger, cardamom, and white pepper—often referred to as speculaaskruiden (Speculaas spice mix).
Traditionally baked for St. Nicholas’ Day on 5 December, Speculaas biscuits have become popular worldwide, enjoyed with tea or coffee throughout the year. They are often shaped using carved wooden moulds, creating intricate windmill, saint, or animal patterns. The dough is typically made with butter, brown sugar, and flour, giving the biscuits a rich, caramelised taste. Some variations include almonds or candied ginger for added texture and depth.
With their crisp texture and warming spice, Speculaas biscuits are a nostalgic treat that captures the cosy essence of European baking. Whether enjoyed plain or used as a base for desserts, they are a delightful way to indulge in old-world charm with every bite.

We deliver throughout South Africa, utilising Cloud Logistics, The Courier Guy, Internet Express, Sky, FastWay, and other courier services. We reserve the right to select the courier partner that offers the best delivery price for your parcel. If you prefer a specific courier, you will be responsible for covering any price difference.
Please note that we are based in Bellville, Cape Town, and we do not have branches in other locations.
Parcels in and around Cape Town are normally the next day after shipping.
Parcels to the rest of the country and in major areas are normally delivered in 3-5 working days. Parcels to outlying towns and areas can take even longer, as these towns are normally not serviced every day.
Overnight delivery (only to certain areas) is available at an extra cost. Please contact us directly should this be required.
Days are calculated from when we confirmed the order is ready. All couriers work on a normal 5-day work week, excluding weekends and public holidays. Parcels are picked up at our premises in the afternoon, so orders received and fully paid by 12:00 are normally couriered the same day. (Note that EFTs must show in our bank accounts.)
You are also more than welcome to pick-up your order at The Deli, or to organise a courier to collect it from us. Pick-up can only happen once you have been notified that your order is ready. Pick-ups are Monday to Thursday, 08:00 till 18:00, and Fridays 08:00 till 16:00, excluding weekends and public holidays.
We offer free shipping* on orders over R 1 000 to any destination in South Africa.
* The following destinations might have a surcharge: Chain stores, Power stations, Hospitals, Plots & Farms.
For orders under R 1 000 we do charge shipping.
Cape Town and surrounding areas: R 80 / order
Rest of SA: R 100 / order
If you would prefer to make use of your own courier services or do a pick-up yourself, please indicate and contact us after you have placed the order. Once your order is ready you will be notified. Your courier needs to pick-up the parcel at Unit 9, Rosen Park, 23 Bella Rosa St, Rosenpark, Durbanville, 7550. Please see above for the normal pick-up times.
